“’Earl (Campbell) had his eighth rib broken,’ Bum explained. ‘When he fell, he broke it. Lookin’ at the film, Shell hit him as he turned in the air and, when Earl came down, he came down flat on his back like a pancake. That’s what broke his rib. It wasn’t the lick.’ There was a momentary pause. ‘Not takin’ anything away from Donnie Shell,’ Bum added, ‘because he’s sure as hell capable of breakin’ a rib.’”
