Reading, for me, is entertainment and an escape from the real world. But it can also inform and stretch the boundaries of the life I live.
I had relatively high expectations for this book, which I found as a paperback on sale at a now-defunct indie bookstore. I liked the cover art, the blurb sounded interesting, and reviewers I follow on GR had it either on their TBR list or had positively reviewed it.
Unfortunately, this book failed to deliver from the very first page. My disappointment quickly escalated to annoyance. I found the prose a little awkward and too informally styled. The author frequently used dashes ( - ) instead of properly constructed clauses. Sentence fragments and sometimes bizarre word choices kept me from fully engaging with the story as I mentally edited the text as I read.
This was such an unpleasant reading experience that I DNF’d on page 17/241.
