Reading, for me, is entertainment and an escape from the real world. But it can also inform and stretch the boundaries of the life I live.
I love, love, love this quilt my sister made for me. I loved Nancy Drew as a girl and amassed a pretty good collection of the books printed in the 60's and 70's, several of which I stole from my big sister. I've continued to collect the mystery stories - both the 1930s-40s originals and 1950s-60s revisions. You can see some of them on left hand bookcase in the picture I posted of my furry friends yesterday. So my big sister, who took up quilting about 3 years ago, used a Nancy Drew theme to make my first quilt. The design is her own. The fabric swatches feature illustrations from both eras of mystery stories, various endpapers used in the different printings, patterns of little magnifying glasses, and book spines. I'm such a lucky duck!
