Reading, for me, is entertainment and an escape from the real world. But it can also inform and stretch the boundaries of the life I live.
This mystery story kept me guessing until the end. Guessing so wildly that I suspected nearly every character, and even wondering whether there was a murder at all. Even better, I was glued to the story for the characters as much as the plot. They were nuanced enough that none were heroic, but nearly all were sympathetic in some way. The ending was not quite tied up neatly and was not exactly happy and was very, very, satisfying.
Audio version, borrowed from my public library via Overdrive. Linda Emond’s performance had the right blend of emotion and pacing, but it was a little difficult at times to distinguish the different “voices” of each character.
