Reading, for me, is entertainment and an escape from the real world. But it can also inform and stretch the boundaries of the life I live.
I went to Half Price Books for lunch yesterday, hoping to find a copy of Halloween Tree to substitute for Harry Potter on my Pumpkin category. No luck. But I found another suitable Ray Bradbury, and got a wonderful surprise when I got it home.
My tattered paperback is actually signed by Mr. B himself! I guess HPB didn't realize it either, because it wasn't in the "signed by author" section and I only paid the usual 1/2 cover price for it - $5.00. Not that it's really a collectible, since the book is not in great shape and Bradbury apparently signed anything that would hold still long enough. But still, what a fun surprise. :)
